The Saskatoon Community Foundation’s CEO believes there has been more charitable giving since the pandemic began, but there is also more need.
Carm Michalenko describes the foundation a steward of philanthropy where through endowments and other funding, grants are disbursed to various charities. Donors choose what they would like their funds to support. Michalenko says there is also a general pool of funding for community needs, which in the past has focused on youth causes, social and cultural inclusion and reconciliation.
The year 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the foundation, and a refresh of its brand thanks to an anonymous million dollar donation. Michalenko understands that although the Saskatoon Community Foundation has been around since 1970, not everyone is aware of what the organization is about.
The Foundation is also one of the 50 organizations and government agencies that are a part of the Saskatoon Inter-Agency Response to COVID-19.
