Almost 15,000 people participated in the City of Saskatoon’s traffic safety survey on residential speed limits, and another 414 people were invited to take a third-party phone or online survey with residents from all age groups and areas of the city.
The majority of open survey respondents at 65 per cent prefer the speed limit to stay the same, but from the third-party respondents, 52 per cent preferred the speed limit at lower than 50 km/h on local streets. Of those surveyed who would like speeds reduced, 40 km/h is the more preferred speed compared to 30. The majority from both groups preferred no change to speed limits for the collector and arterial streets.
The results will be presented to City Council’s Transportation Committee next Wednesday, June 7th and then City Administration will present a report with recommendations to the Committee in August.
