Saskatchewan’s Health Minister wants to clarify an earlier statement about possibly having third vaccinations for those who got AstraZeneca.
Paul Merriman says this would not be for everyone.
It would specifically be for those who are wanting to travel internationally.
They would have to have vaccinations that are approved in the country they are traveling to.
The United States hasn’t approved AstraZeneca yet, but Merriman expects that will happen.
He adds that some countries may not accept people who have had mixed vaccines.
This issue is something that Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer will have to make a recommendation on.
The Health Minister also commented on the COVID-19 outbreak at the Buffalo River Dene Nation.
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nation has urged for action from both the province and the RCMP to get the outbreak under control.
Minister Paul Merriman says there are ongoing conversations with community leaders, but it’s up to the local Medical Health Officer to request what is needed from the Chief Medical Health Officer.
So, it’s up to the local Health Officer to recommend bringing back certain public health orders.
Merriman adds that the province is making sure vaccinations are readily available.
