A Swift Current RCMP Constable is being investigated in connection to two off duty impaired driving incidents and facing charges in one case, with more charges possibly pending.
This past Tuesday at 10 p.m. Swift Current RCMP were alerted to an impaired driver in Waldeck. Kevin Granrude was arrested at the scene and held overnight in police custody with conditions and an indefinite administrative driver’s license suspension.
On Wednesday afternoon at 1:45 p.m. Swift Current RCMP were called out after receiving a report of a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 1. Officers pulled over a vehicle at Rush Lake and the driver failed a roadside approved screen device test. Kevin Granrude was arrested again.
The vehicles involved in both incidents were impounded, Granrude, a 15 year veteran of the RCMP, appeared in court via telephone Thursday. The Swift Current Rural RCMP is actively investigating the second incident and say additional charges are pending. Kevin Granrude will also be the subject of an RCMP Code of Conduct investigation and has been suspended with pay.
Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore says she shares concerns the public must have in hearing about these incidents. The Saskatchewan RCMP’s Commanding Officer says, “These are not the standards we hold our police officers and employees to. The Saskatchewan RCMP will ensure these matters are thoroughly investigated.”
