Saskatoon could see an increase in transit services in four key areas in 2022 and 2023.
City Council’s Transportation committee reviewed a report Monday regarding the increase to Tier 1 transit for North Kensington in 2022 and Aspen Ridge in 2023, and the addition of seasonal service for Spadina in 2022 and Wanuskewin Park in 2023.
The Tier one services would mean that North Kensington and Aspen Ridge would have transit service during the peak hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. This would require a budget increase of 167,239 annually for both neighbourhoods.
The seasonal increase would add a route downtown and along Spadina Avenue to service businesses, tourism, employees, volunteers during special events and festivals. An annual increase of 162,093 would be required. The Wanuskewin Park increase would see seasonal service to support school, tourism and business travel to the park six hours a day, six days a week, from May until September. An increase of $94,550 would be needed.
The transit increases will be apart of the City’s 2022-2023 Multi-Year Business Planning and Budget deliberations.
