An inmate from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary has died. Correctional Service Canada reports that Brendan Vermette had been serving a 32 month sentence for trafficking cocaine.
In the summer of 2016, the Prince Albert Police Service executed a search warrant at a home and seized over 280 grams of crack cocaine, more than 2,000 grams of cocaine, and $100,000 cash, among other items. Vermette pleaded guilty and was sentenced last September.
The CSC will review the circumstances. The police and the coroner have been notified.
