The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is calling on the Correctional Service of Canada and the Pine Grove Correctional Centre to provide better health and safety for inmates and staff.
A news release from the FSIN is calling for all aging equipment within the facility to be inspected and replaced to prevent further malfunctions.
This comes after three people, two Pine Grove Correctional Centre inmates and a staff member, were transported to hospital with what was believed to be carbon monoxide poisoning on Wednesday.
The cause was determined to be a faulty heater.
According to the news release, the FSIN’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after receiving complaints from concerned family members following the incident at the Prince Albert facility earlier this week.
