A Saskatchewan-born conductor will lead the Saskatoon Symphony’s performance on Saturday night.
Tania Miller, originally from Foam Lake will be in Saskatoon for to take part in the performance which will also see British Columbia-based pianist Jane Coop take the stage.
Miller grew up in Foam Lake studying piano and performing in the marching band. She went on to study piano and music at the U of S before teaching music in Outlook.
Then when attending a University of Calgary summer conducting program, she was encouraged to pursue conducting by Robert Reynolds from the University of Michigan.
Miller who last partnered with the SSO four years ago explains what kind of music will fill the air at TCU Place when she takes the stage.
“The big work on the program is Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and this is one of my favourite symphonies to conduct. It’s full of emotion, incredible tunes and melodies. The sense of a story being told which seems to go through all of the movements of the symphony.”
Showtime is 7:30 at TCU Place. Tickets can be purchased on the Saskatoon Symphony’s website.
