Saskatchewan’s Minister of Energy and Resources calls the Energy and Mines Ministers’ Conference a missed opportunity for the federal government. Jim Reiter believes the federal energy and environmental policies continue to make life unaffordable by inhibiting the industry’s ability to produce Canada’s resources through what he calls baseless targets and caps.
The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to expanding the province’s export infrastructure. Reiter explains that lack of pipeline capacity in western Canada costs local producers billions each year, with less opportunity to get their product to market. A news release from the province says Saskatchewan supports the Alberta Court of Appeal’s ruling that the federal Impact Assessment Act for approving these resource projects is unconstitutional. Reiter suggests the solution to North American and global energy security issues could be Canada’s natural resources and infrastructure, if federal policies supported that.
