You can expect to see pickets up this morning at the CRA building on 3rd Avenue North in Saskatoon as well as the Canada Building on 22nd Street East and Regional Headquarters for Corrections on Faithful Avenue.
There are approximately 155,000 Treasury Board and Canada Revenue Agency workers who are members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada that commenced strike action just after midnight.
PSAC national president Chris Aylward said they had truly hoped they wouldn’t be forced to take strike action, but they have exhausted every other avenue to reach a fair contract for Canada’s federal public service workers.
PSAC says this is one of the largest strikes in Canada’s history and picket lines will be set up in more than 250 locations across the country.
The Government of Canada says its goal has been to reach agreements that are fair and competitive for employees and reasonable for taxpayers.
As a result of the labour action, the government says Canadians should expect that some services will be delayed or unavailable. The federal government says essential services will continue to be delivered such as employment Insurance payments; Canada Pension Plan payments; Veterans’ income support; Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement payments.
