Bench Hutterian Brethren Corporation pleaded guilty to two occupational health and safety violations in Shaunavon Provincial Court earlier this month, leading to $112,000 in fines. The two charges are from a fatal accident on November 25th of 2021, near Shaunavon, where a worker died after a work platform they were standing on fell 25 feet from the forks of a telehandler. One violation is failing to ensure only trained operators operate powered mobile equipment and the second is failing to ensure a work platform mounted on a forklift is securely attached to the forks of the forklift.
Separately, a construction company pleaded guilty in Saskatoon Provincial Court to one OHS violation. Back in October of 2020, a worker in Saskatoon suffered serious injuries after falling over four metres while assisting in the installation of a tarp over a scaffold. The charge for D’Amani Stucco Solutions was for failing to ensure the health, safety and welfare of an employee. The total fine including surcharge is $30,000.
