In May, the Saskatoon Food Bank held their annual City-Wide Food Drive, but this year’s results, although very helpful, did not compare to past years.
Deborah Hamp, the Director of Operations and Engagement at the Saskatoon Food Bank says there were more cash donations this year than last, but donations both drop-off and through the grocery stores were down from last year.
Hamp says that the cost of groceries has prevented the public from being able to contribute as much this year.
She adds that the food bank is seeing record high usage numbers; 24,000 people a month. With children out of school and no longer benefitting from school-provided lunches, she expects the number will only climb higher.
She thanks the public for their donations although the cost of living is so great, and encourages those who can, to come by with food donations.
