Canada’s Premiers ended off their annual conference saying they want a roundtable meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss infrastructure priorities. Premier Scott Moe says they need to have a conversation at the First Ministers’ Table on how to fund the community infrastructure and economic infrastructure needs, as well as keeping our economy competitive and keeping Canada’s economy competitive.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says the economy needs to grow to meet emission targets. She suggests the federal government should focus on its own priorities rather than interfering with provincial jurisdiction. She says, “Their job is to build economic corridors. Their job is to build ports. Their job is to give us new access through rail lines, through roadways and to build transmission lines and to build pipelines so we can get our product to market. Because if each one of us is able to get our product to market and grow our economy we will have the means to invest in the technologies that will allow us to reduce emissions.”
The Premiers also spoke about the rising number of RCMP vacancies across the country. They want Ottawa to fully explain its future funding plans for the law enforcement agency.
