SaskPower reports a peak demand of 3,669 megawatts at 4:55pm, exceeding the previous mark set nearly one year ago by 72 megawatts.
The Crown electrical utility says it is possible another new record could be set this week as much of the province records temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius or higher.
Air conditioning typically accounts for a significant portion of a customer’s summer power bill. SaskPower has the following suggestions:
-Ensure your air conditioner is operating as efficiently as possible by having it inspected by a licensed professional
-Consider installing a programmable or smart thermostat to ensure your home is being cooled only when needed. (for every degree that air conditioning is lowered in an eight-hour period, customers could save up to two per cent on power costs)
The highest overall peak loads in Saskatchewan are typically experienced in the winter. The all-time demand record of 3,910 megawatts was set on December 30, 2021.
