To date, more than 137-thousand square kilometres of land have been scorched across Canada as a result of wildfires.
On top of physical damages to property and land, the blazes are causing mental fatigue problems for firefighters as well.
The fire chief of Wilson’s Landing, B-C, Paul Zydowicz, says his team had been monitoring a fire in the Okanagan Lake area when it began burning rapidly downslope, right toward their community.
The fire crews then had to keep working even after learning that 13 out of 24 crew members had lost their homes to the flames.
Meanwhile, in Saskatchewan there are currently 26 wildfires burning in the province, and only one of them are contained. Twenty-three fires are under ongoing assessment, and the other two are not contained. There have been 415 wildfires to date, and 352 is the 5-year average.
