Certified early childhood educators in Saskatchewan are getting a raise as of today (Sun) through a Wage Enhancement Grant.
The provincial government says funding for the increase is provided through the Canada-Saskatchewan Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement which was signed in 2021.
It provides a federal investment of nearly $1.1 billion over five years for childcare in the province.
Level 1 Early Childhood Educators will receive an increase of up to $1.50 per hours.
Level II will receive an increase of up to $2 an hour and Level III, up to $2.50 an hour.
A news release from the province says compared to September of last year, that is about an eight per cent increase, on average.
The ECE Wage Enhancement grant is also being expanded to include assistants working in group family childcare homes who have an ECE certification.
They will be eligible to receive an increase of up to $7.50 an hour, bringing them in line with the increases to ECEs working in childcare centres in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
