Although there was an emergency session scheduled in the Legislature last week to pass legislation for the Sask Party government’s pronoun policy, today (Wed) is the official opening of the fourth session of the 29th Legislature. Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty will open the session with the Speech from the Throne, which outlines what the government wants to do.
The public is invited to the outdoor portion of the ceremony which begins at 1:20 in front of the Legislative building. The Lieutenant Governor will be greeted by the Premier, followed by a Vice-Regal Salute and the inspection of the Canadian Forces Honour Guard. The opening ceremony has taken place each session since 1906.
A rally is planned for 11:30 a.m. just across Wascana Lake from the Legislature at the Wascana Park Bandstand. The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses says hundreds of registered nurses, nursing students and members of the public are going to rally prior to the official opening of the Legislature in response to what SUN calls “inadequate action on nursing shortages that continue unabated.”
