Winter is coming, again. The unseasonably mild weather Saskatchewan has experienced for much of 2024, will take a back seat to snow, wind and colder temperatures to begin the next week.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for central and southern Saskatchewan, saying an intense, fast moving Alberta clipper system is forecast to develop Sunday night and will head east across the province through Monday and then further east into Manitoba. Current indications as of Friday afternoon are from 10 to 20 centimetres of snow Sunday night through Monday evening, but the higher snowfalls will likely be along the northern edge of central Saskatchewan, and less snow as you move further south.
Visibility will be reduced because of blowing snow, with north winds gusting up to 70 km/h accompanying the weather system. Environment Canada says the temperatures will plummet once the clipper passes by. Monday night’s low in both Saskatoon and Prince Albert is -25.
