A former Deputy Chief with the Estevan Police Service is the new Deputy Commissioner and Chief Firearms Officer of the Saskatchewan Firearms Office (SFO).
Murray Cowan (pictured) takes on the role as of Monday and will oversee the central administration of the SFO and report to Saskatchewan Firearms Commissioner Robert Freberg. He will also have oversight of the entire SFO and be responsible for external relationships and advocacy, strategic planning and advancing government priorities. Cowan has over 45 years of firearms-related experience and nearly 40 years of service in public safety, including 30 years with the Estevan Police Service. He became Deputy Chief in 2017 and has been an active member of the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police. Cowan is also an avid outdoorsman, hunter, target shooter and firearms enthusiast.
