The City of Saskatoon says roads are wet and slushy from rain and snow and city crews have been applying de-icing material as required on Circle Drive and other high-speed and high-traffic streets, bridges and intersections. Drivers are encouraged to leave extra time for travel. As it continues snowing, City crews will grade snow and slush from priority streets and sidewalks.
You should check the highway hotline before you go and as of noon on Wednesday it was reporting, from out of Saskatoon, on Highway 16 to Langham, on Highway 12 to Hepburn, on Highway 11 to Osler, on Highway 11 south to Dundurn, the Pike Lake highway, on Highway 7 to Delisle and Highway 14 to Biggar, roads are icy with slush and drifting snow as well as reduced visibility. The same conditions are reported on highways out of Biggar going to Landis and Cando. Travel is not recommended on Highway 15 from Outlook to Highway 42. A snowfall warning is in effect for Hudson Bay, Porcupine Plaine, Melfort Tisdale, Nipawin and Carrot River where 15 to 25 cm of snow over the next two days is expected, with the majority, 10 cm, to fall today. Areas further north and east also have a snowfall warning including La Ronge, Prince Albert National Park, Candle Lake, Pinehouse Lake, Sandy Bay where 14 to 23 centimetres has already fallen and total amounts reaching 25 to 40 centimetres are expected.
SaskPower hasn’t indicated that some unplanned power outages are due to weather, but they have occurred in areas getting hit by strong winds and wet, heavy snow. As of noon Wednesday, crews are working to repair damage caused by a downed power line and estimate power to be restored at approximately 3:00 p.m. affecting customers west of Saskatoon and surrounding areas. The power outage was reported shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
