Saskatoon Police responded around 10 Thursday night to the 200 block of Korol Crescent in the Hampton Village neighbourhood, and were told that while on the phone, the call taker could hear a commotion in the background that suggested a robbery with a firearm.
As officers were responding, officers were told at least one of the suspects had stolen a vehicle and fled. It was found, but police say the driver fled and was speeding and driving erratically, so officers disengaged. It was found abandoned a short distance away after hitting a parked vehicle. Officers report finding a loaded firearm in the vehicle.
A police dog team was used to track the driver, leading them to a home under construction in the 500 block of Nightingale Road. The armoured rescue vehicle arrived and using its loud hailer, a man was ordered to come out. He was arrested around 11:30 without further incident.
The 34-year-old is facing multiple charges related to break and enter, robbery, firearms and evading police. He was also found to be in breach of court-imposed conditions.
