A news release from the province says the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has rejected the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee’s proposal around binding arbitration. The government’s committee proposed the parties could jointly request binding arbitration, but according to the news release, the Teachers’ Federation declined.
Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill says binding arbitration represents the best path to getting a deal done to provide stability and predictability for students, families and the education sector. The government release says the STF’s leadership has refused to agree to send the collective agreement to binding arbitration, despite requesting this earlier, which suggests that they are not serious about reaching an agreement and are more interested in planning job action.
