A power outage is affecting what seems to be a large portion of Saskatoon. The outage was first reported at 1:45 p.m. due to an equipment failure. The power was back on again at around 2:40, at least in the north end, but only lasted for about five minutes. SaskPower has confirmed that the outage stemmed from an issue with a SaskPower transmission line, however it is affecting Saskatoon Light and Power customers.
The City of Saskatoon says the outage is affecting multiple neighbourhoods in the north, east, west and central parts of the city. Electrical crews are working to repair it, and it is not known how long this will take.
Numerous traffic lights were also impacted, backing up traffic at major intersections such as Circle Drive at Avenue C. Information regarding cause, affected area, and restoration time will be provided as it is made available. Saskatoon Public Schools has decided to dismiss students for the remainder of the day due to the outage.
