Gardening, landscaping, and construction projects. They all require digging.
As the ground thaws with warmer temperatures, the Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance is reminding the public, and construction workers, of the dangers that come with digging into underground utilities.
The leading cause of damage to underground utilities, such as oil pipelines, gas lines, water lines and electricity wires, is uncontrolled excavation. In 2023, there were 615 reported damages to buried infrastructure in Saskatchewan, which equates to about 2.5 incidents every day.
To mark Dig Safe Month, the SCGA is hosting 23 free breakfasts. They begin at 7:30 a.m. and include a 20-minute Dig Safe video and a chance to network with industry professionals. For a full schedule of events, visit scga.ca and click on the Dig Safe Month tab.
