The Official Opposition is calling on the Sask. party to get its priorities straight.
NDP MLA for Saskatoon Riversdale Kim Breckner says instead of staying in the province to deal with the current healthcare, homelessness, and opioid crises, Premier Scott Moe is in Ottawa “endorsing separatists.”
She’s referring to Moe’s attendance at the Canada Strong and Free Network’s National Conference, hosted by former Reform Party leader Preston Manning.
Manning recently wrote an opinion piece for The Globe and Mail in which he says a vote for Mark Carney is a vote for Western secession, “a vote for the breakup of Canada as we know it.”
“It’s the fact that he’s endorsing people who are endorsing separatism at such a crucial time when we need to be united. Donald Trump wants us to be in division. That’s what’s playing into his agenda, and by Scott Moe going to this conference, he’s endorsing that and making us weaker,” Breckner claims.
Moe not only attended but also spoke during a fireside chat at the event Friday morning.
“Going to Ottawa and talking to other premiers across the country would be beneficial. Going to a very narrow conference led by MAGA-loving separatists is not in the interest of Federation.”
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will also be speaking at the conference.
Breckner adds that the Sask. Party seems to be more focused on finding the next Party Leader than dealing with local issues.
“According to the conference itinerary, Sask. Party Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill and former Justice Minister Bronwyn Eyre will also be there, both rumoured to be eyeing a leadership bid. In fact, when asked by CTV this week, Cockrill didn’t deny it.”
