The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre has partnered with Canpotex for the third year with their Fresh Fruit for Kids Campaign running the month of July. The campaign helps support children in the city with fresh fruit, who may not have access to proper nutrition, as one in five children experience poverty in Saskatchewan. In Saskatoon specifically, the food bank supports an average of 26,000 people each month and 41 per cent are children. Canpotex has donated $50,000 to the campaign and is challenging the community to match that amount.
Deborah Hamp is the Director of Operations and Engagement with the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre and says, “Without school breakfast and lunch programs, kids can find themselves in a tough spot and we want to make sure we are supporting children and the families who love them.”
The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre and Canpotex are hoping to raise $100,000 for the Fresh Fruit for Kids Campaign. Monetary donations are encouraged online through saskatoonfoodbank.org but individuals wishing to donate fresh fruit or cash in-person can drop off to 202 Avenue C South.
