Saskatoon Police Service says their Communications centre received a call around 4:00 a.m. on Monday from a man in the Middle East who want to alert them to an alarming situation.
In a Facebook post police say he had been using a randomized online chat room when he came across a live stream of an adult male committing an indecent act in a room where a child – a girl – was also present.
Two addresses in Saskatoon were identified as possibly being involved and officers were immediately dispatched to investigate. They spoke to residents at both addresses and determined they were actually not involved and while the investigation was continuing the man who initiated the call from nearly 11,000 kilometers away, had re-matched in the chat room with the same suspect and obtained further evidence to help in the investigation.
The Saskatoon Police Service determined the suspect was at a residence in Regina and contacted the Regina Police Service (RPS) to conduct a priority call for service at a home in Regina which is where police located a 51-year-old suspect and a 5-year-old girl. He was arrested and has been charged with one count of making child pornography. Police seized his electronic devices for further examination.
