The City of Saskatoon says one person has been sent to hospital after their legs were reportedly run over by a garbage truck.
The accident happened around 10 a.m. in an alley adjacent to Avenue I and south of 22nd Street.
The City of Saskatoon in a news release says the alley at that location has a 90-degree sharp turn to the left. From what the City has determined the victim was lying to the side of the laneway near the left corner of the turn near a power box and the garbage truck driver couldn’t see them.
As well the City notes that garbage trucks have a right-hand driver’s seat and steering wheel so the operator can see better for collecting and tipping bins on the right-hand side of the truck.
A police investigation is underway and at this time no charges have been laid.
Angela Gardiner, General Manager of Utilities and Environment said, “Our thoughts are with this individual and their loved ones right now.”
