Environment Canada says southerly winds brought unseasonably warm weather to much of Saskatchewan on Tuesday. Almost a dozen new hot weather records were set in Saskatchewan on the last day of September. Elbow, on Lake Diefenbaker, with a daytime high of 31.9 degrees was not only the hot spot in the province but the hot spot in the country. Elbow also set a new daytime high record beating out the old record of 30 degrees Celsius set in 1992.
A couple of other daytime highs at 30.5 and 30.2 degrees, for Melfort and Nipawin respectively, also broke records set in 1992. Saskatoon’s daytime high Tuesday was 30.2 while Prince Albert topped out at 28.9 degrees Celsius but neither city set a new daytime high record.
