The hardworking team at Saskatoon’s Friendship Inn is nearing the end of their busy season.
Friendship Inn CEO Sandra Kary says many people think cold weather brings more people in the door, but it’s actually the opposite, as many people are only able to walk so far in those frigid, winter temperatures.
In reality, Kary explains that the Friendship Inn’s busiest times are seen during the summer.
“August, September, and right into October. Then, when the weather starts to get cold, people are looking for different places and hopefully finding better shelter that they can take advantage of so they can get out of the cold.”
The season wraps up with one of, if not the biggest meal of the year: the annual Thanksgiving feast taking place on Monday, October 13th.
“We prepare for over 2000 turkey dinners, and up to 2500 people might enjoy that,” she explains.
Kary says the turkeys are already in the building, but donations of potatoes, carrots, and boxed stuffing are always welcome. She admits that it takes about $5 per plate to put on a feast of that size, so monetary donations are quite welcome, as well.
