On the heels of the RCMP issuing a request for Saskatchewan motorists to do their part in getting everyone to their Thanksgiving gatherings safely, there have been four more deaths on top of the six fatalities recorded in the first six days of October.
RCMP were called at 7:10 a.m. Thursday to a rollover on Highway #4 south of the Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation. RCMP, EMS, Wilkie Fire Services and STARS responded. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene while, of the four other occupants, three were taken to hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries and one person with serious injuries was flown to hospital by STARS. The deceased is a 30-year-old woman from the First Nation.
And at 6:15 p.m. Thursday evening Melfort RCMP say a truck and an SUV collided claiming three lives. The driver of the truck died at the scene as did the driver of the SUV. They have been identified as a 31-year-old man from James Smith Cree Nation and a 59-year-old man from Kinistino. A passenger in the truck was transported to hospital where he later died and he has been identified as a 24-year-old man, also from JSCN.
Saskatchewan RCMP continue to see a rise in fatal and serious injury collisions, noting a six-year high in 2025 when compared to the years past. In September, ten lives were lost on roadways in Saskatchewan RCMP jurisdiction which was 43 per cent higher than the month prior.
RCMP say year-to-date, speeding has contributed to 34 per cent of fatal collisions, impairment has contributed to 31 per cent of fatal collisions, and not wearing a seatbelt has contributed to 48 per cent of total fatal collisions.
Both accidents from Thursday continue to be investigated with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
