The Saskatoon Fire Department says due to significant snowfall and extreme cold weather conditions, the Winter Emergency Response Plan has been activated at Level II until December 22nd. They ask residents to share the updated list of warm-up locations and keep an eye out for anyone who may need assistance.
The City of Saskatoon says contractor crews joined the City snow maintenance team yesterday to enable traffic to keep moving on Saskatoon streets. After 11 cm of snow accumulated throughout the day, along with high winds, the City has declared a snow event.
The City has 30 graders, 6 plows and 15 sanders which are focused on clearing and maintaining Priority 1 routes, including Circle Drive and major arterials. There are nine sidewalk plows which will work on clearing pathways along arterials, freeways, city sidewalks and Meewasin Trail within 48 hours.
The City also says delays or disruptions are possible in regard to Saskatoon Transit due to collisions, drifting snow or inaccessible bus stops.
