A Melfort man is facing a charge of second-degree murder in connection to the death of a baby.
On Christmas Eve RCMP received a report of an infant in medical distress. Officers responded and found EMS attending to an unresponsive infant who was transport to hospital. RCMP say the baby is under one year of age.
The infant’s injuries were considered suspicious in nature and the baby died in hospital on December 28th.
Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit and Prince Albert Serious Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation subsequently making an arrest Saturday in Melfort.
The name of the child is not being released in the event of a possible future publication ban. Police say the victim and the accused are known to each other and the 37-year-old-man who is facing one count of second-degree murder was in court Monday.
