The Saskatchewan NDP has completed a series of internal cabinet adjustments as an attempt to prepare for power come next election.
Party Leader Carla Beck announced the changes Wednesday morning, which include the addition of two new entirely critic positions. Saskatoon Southeast MLA Brittany Senger will become the Critic for technology and AI, while Regina Northeast MLA Jaqueline Roy will take on the new role of Women’s Health Critic.
Roy says right now, “women in this province are waiting months and months for essential procedures like mammograms. And as you know, some are even having to go to Alberta to get their cancer care. That’s not the future I want for women and girls in Saskatchewan.”
On the technology front, Senger says the current government lacks a plan for utilizing AI to its full potential while also being cautious about potential challenges.
“We must do everything we can to make sure new technology like Ai helps people and doesn’t leave them behind. There is absolutely no evidence that the government is taking this seriously.”
The shuffle comes just one month after Premier Scott Moe decided to shift his cabinet around.
Other changes include:
Cumberland MLA Jordan McPhail will add the role of Ethics & Democracy Shadow Minister. McPhail gained ample experience prosecuting the Sask. Party on scandals related to the 2025 wildfires, including the alleged $100-million overspend on water bombers.
Saskatoon Silverspring MLA Hugh Gordon, a former police officer and financial crimes investigator, will take on the position of Associate Shadow Minister for Community Safety.
Saskatoon Stonebridge MLA Darcy Warrington takes over the Highways, Infrastructure & SGI Shadow Minister portfolio.
The role of Shadow Minister for Parks, Culture & Sport now belongs to Regina Wascana Plains MLA Brent Blakley.
Saskatoon Nutana MLA Erika Ritchie becomes the Shadow Minister for Social Services.
The Crown Investments Corporation Shadow Minister file is now held by Regina South Albert MLA Aleana Young.
The Human Rights Shadow Minister file is now held by Regina Pasqua MLA Bhajan Brar.
