The mid-January warm spell may be coming to a close but not before a third day in a row for record breaking temperatures in the province. Environment Canada reports that 16 locations set or tied daily maximum temperature records on Wednesday, January 14th.
Three days running La Ronge set a new daytime high and yesterday the mercury reached 6.4 degrees. The old record was 5.6 degrees set in 1942.
Lloydminster also set a new record but that was included as part of Alberta’s weather summary. The daytime high in the border city was 6.1 degrees yesterday.
The Scott area broke a 100-year-old weather record with a daytime high of 6.0 degrees. The old record was 5.0 set in 1926.
Maple Creek broke the record set in 2008 when the daytime high reached 15.4 degrees. It was also the hotspot in the province on Wednesday.
In Alberta 39 new records were set and Claresholm, Alberta was the hotspot in the country at 19.5 degrees. There were also seven locations in BC which set new daytime highs.
