Saskatoon Public Schools announced that Amy Zhang, a 2025 Walter Murray Collegiate graduate, is the recipient of the SPS Board of Education annual Award of Excellence.
The award recognizes the most outstanding graduate from the prior school year based on excellence in academics, character, leadership, and engagement. It is the school division’s highest honour for a graduating student.
Zhang is now a freshman at Harvard University, where she is studying bioengineering and public policy. She graduated school with high honours and a 99.5 per cent average. Her academic record consists of top provincial math distinctions, national contest success, university level course work and interdisciplinary STEM and AI research.
Zhang is also a nationally recognized pianist with provincial gold medals and national competition placements. She completed her Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto diploma with a mark of 95.
Walter Murray Principal Dave Fisher describes Zhang as “the epitome of an academic”, adding, “her determination, humility, and commitment to learning lifted every space she entered.”
Vice Principal Jonathan McKee says, “a student like Amy is rare… her integrity, creativity, empathy, and leadership put her in a category of her own.”
She was recognized at a Board of Education luncheon at the division board office on January 20th.
