Today marks the beginning of the two-day radiothon raising funds for Family Service Saskatoon. The fundraiser is taking over the airwaves on our Saskatoon Media Group radio stations which includes 98Cool, 92.9 The Bull, and CJWW.
Executive Director Janine Bauman says her staff see thousands of people each year, most of which need help with anxiety, stress, and a lack of healthy coping mechanisms.
“We’ve seen, over the last five to six years, demand increase significantly.”
The nonprofit organization offers counselling, youth programming, parenting groups, intimate partner violence support, case workers, and rapid access counselling, and every dollar raised goes towards ensuring that their services are accessible at low or no cost.
“We also apply for grants, we do all sorts of things, but this radiothon is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” she explains. The radiothon is today and tomorrow.
She says Family Service Saskatoon is always developing new and improved programs, such as Counselling Connect Sask, an immediate, online solution-focused service.
“You can access no-cost counselling. It’s an online booking system…If you need help in the moment, it’s available.”
