The Department of National Defence says this weekend the North Saskatchewan Regiment and the 38 Combat Engineer Regiment are conducting Winter Survival Training in the Military Training Area just north of Prince Albert.
In addition to the North Saskatchewan Regiment, members of the 38 Combat Engineer Regiment and 38 Service Battalion will be participating in snowmobile training, chain saw usage and winter operations indoctrination.
The training at the re-opened Prince Albert Range Training Area is described as “foundational” and is the first steps in teaching soldiers confidence in their equipment and clothing as well learning how to achieve maneuverability in the winter.
This training area was closed in 2011 and the Canadian Armed Forces, in a media advisory, says it recently reopened for use last month following seven years of hard work from the North Saskatchewan Regiment to maintain and restore it for regular use. This provides Prince Albert based soldiers and the rest of 38 Brigade training for small unit operations in woodland terrain.
