With eight minutes left in the third period, all signs pointed to the Regina Pats pulling into a tie for the eighth and final playoff spot in the W-H-L’s Eastern Conference, at the expense of the visiting Saskatoon Blades.

However, the Bridge City Bunch refused to follow that storyline, storming back from a late 3-1 deficit for a 4-3 triumph. Tristen Doyle (pictured) scored on a breakaway at 1:41 of overtime to give the Blue and Gold two huge points in their pursuit of climbing out of sixth place in the Conference table. Kazden Mathies opened the scoring for the 26-21-4 Blades in the first period, but Regina took over territorial play for 40 minutes between the mid-point of the first period and half-way through the third, out-shooting Saskatoon 27-14 during that time. However, Rowan Calvert started the Bridge City Bunch comeback and Cooper Williams forced overtime with 3:04 remaining in regulation time, setting the stage for Doyle’s O-T heroics. It was the second extra time winning goal for the 19-year-old defenceman in his W-H-L career. Mathies added two assists to his game-opening goal and Williams chipped in a helper to his tally for a multi-point game. The Blue and Gold ended up out-shooting the Pats 34-31 with 17-year-old rookie Ryley Budd stopping 28 shots. The Blades pulled within a point of fifth place Brandon with the win and stayed seven points back of fourth place Calgary after the Hitmen rallied from 4-1 down in the third period to edge the home-standing Wheat Kings 5-4. Saskatoon returns home to host Doyle’s former Lethbridge team-mates Saturday at 7 o’clock at SaskTel Centre with CJWW’s broadcast starting at 6:45.
