Between January 30th and February 1st, the RCMP stopped and conducted Mandatory Alcohol Screening Tests on 494 vehicles in and around La Ronge, Stanley Mission, Grandmother’s Bay and Missinipe.
Combined Traffic Services Officers from Regina, Prince Albert, Estevan, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw helped conduct the proactive traffic safety initiative.
In total, officers issued 134 tickets, and 335 warnings. Officers charged one driver for impaired driving under the Criminal Code. They also issued nine roadside suspensions (eight for drug consumption and one for alcohol consumption before driving). There was also one vehicle that fled from police. The matter is still under investigation.
In a news release Inspector Lee Knelsen said, “Whether on a snowmobile or on the road, driving sober is crucial for keeping the Saskatchewan public safe.”
