RCMP investigators have interviewed over 80 individuals in the days following the fatal mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, BC, and more will take place over the weekend.
Just after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, a transgender woman, shot and killed their mother and stepbrother before heading to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, killing five more people.
A release from BC RCMP says the autopsies of the eight victims and the suspect are expected to be complete by the end of the weekend, and the two surviving victims, Maya and Paige, remain in hospital.
RCMP are also continuing to collect digital and physical evidence. This includes images and videos from witnesses as well as CCTV footage and video from BC RCMP body-worn cameras.
Investigators are also processing the two firearms that were seized from the school, one long gun and a rifle that had been modified, among a number of other firearms found at the shooter’s home.
The release says a team of investigators is also scanning the suspect’s online activity and digital footprint to gather additional information.
Further, the RCMP advise the public that an individual in Ontario, with a similar name to the person associated with our incident, has had been wrongly accused of being responsible.
