On Valentine’s Day, the Saskatoon Blades and Prince Albert Raiders shared points in the standings with P-A earning an extra one in a 5-4 shootout victory over the Bridge City Bunch.

It was the Blue and Gold’s third straight contest going beyond regulation time and the second straight night of being involved in a penalty shot contest. On Wednesday, Regina won 7-6 in overtime at SaskTel Centre while the Blades pulled out a 6-5 shootout victory Friday at home over Swift Current. As a result, the Blades have earned four of a possible six points and continue to stay in the hunt for a higher spot in the W-H-L’s Eastern Conference standings. Aiden Oiring and Braeden Cootes scored in the shootout for the Raiders, now 41-8-5 for the season, while Hayden Harsanyi and Tyler Parr were turned aside by Michal Orsulak. Now 27-22-6 for the season, Saskatoon got goals from Hunter Laing, David Lewandowski, Ben Bowtell and Tyler Parr – all coming in a 4:49 span of the second period to turn a 2-0 deficit after the opening 20 minutes into a 4-2 lead. However, Prince Albert battled back with the goaltending of Evan Gardner preventing them for winning in regulation time or in the five-minute overtime, during which the Raiders had a power play opportunity. Gardner stopped 19 of 20 shots during the third period and O-T. Parr’s goal was his fourth in as many games while Brayden Klimpke chipped in a pair of assists. Ben Harvey, Brandon Gorzynski, Riley Boychuk and Jonah Sivertson tallied for P-A. Gorzynski had an assist while captain Justice Christensen chipped in a pair of helpers. The Bridge City Bunch will play their second of four straight games on Monday afternoon in Brandon. The Wheat Kings are three points ahead of the Blue and Gold for second place in the East Division and fifth spot in the Eastern Conference.
