The Saskatoon Police Service says a semi-trailer carrying a piece of equipment that was too high caused significant damage to an overpass in the southern part of Saskatoon.

The semi was in the northbound lane of Highway 11 from Regina entering the city limits.

The Highway 11 northbound lanes into the city limits and Circle Drive eastbound lanes over the bridge will be closed until City of Saskatoon engineers assess the damage and determine if it is safe to travel.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes until further notice.
