The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health has issued an overdose alert for the Swift Current area, remaining in effect until May 28.
A news release from the Ministry of Health says there are drugs which may contain cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl and/or other unknown substances in the Swift Current area with multiple overdoses reported Wednesday. Those required the administration of Naloxone with varied results. The drugs were purchased as M-D-M-A or ecstasy, but screening came back negative for M-D-M-A with the samples testing positive for cocaine and methamphetamine. As well, the presence of fentanyl or other substance is suspected, but unconfirmed. The overdosed individuals experienced sudden onset of decreased levels of consciousness and slow or shallow breathing. All reported cases required medical intervention.
