The Key Lake Mill and McArthur Uranium mine have returned to full production following a disruption caused by flooding in northern Saskatchewan.
On May 10th, Cameco temporarily halted production at Key Lake and McArthur River had reduced activities. While there was no flooding at either location, there were disruptions caused by the partial collapse of the Smoothstone River Bridge due to flood waters and ice.. The bridge is on the primary road route used to transport supplies to both locations.
There is an alternate roadway which had weight and traffic restrictions, but enough critical materials are now able to move for both locations using the secondary route. Cameco is in contact with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways about repairs being made to the Smoothstone Bridge.
In a news release, Cameco is telling investors that the 2026 production plan for the McArthur River/Key Lake operation has not been impacted by the disruption. The Cigar Lake mine continues to run as normal. Cameco says its consolidated production outlook is unchanged at 19.5 to 21.5 million pounds of U308, the most common form of “yellowcake” uranium.
