The hiatus from photo speed enforcement cameras in the province is coming to an end.

Verra Mobility Systems was the vendor for the province’s nine photo speed cameras. However, at the end of May, the company ended its contract with SGI early and took its cameras with it. Several of those cameras are on Circle Drive in Saskatoon and Ring Road in Regina as well as a couple school zones in both cities.

In a news release SGI says, following a competitive procurement process, it has secured a new vendor for its photo speed enforcement program.

The new vendor is Global Traffic Group Ltd. which will begin operations in August and at that time photo speed enforcement will continue with the same locations, signage and fine amounts.

SGI says the most significant change will be the equipment. Existing camera boxes will be retired and replaced with pole-mounted cameras.

This transition does not affect photo speed enforcement in work zones, where cameras have continued operating without interruption.

Twenty-five per cent of the ticket revenue goes to the province’s General Revenue Fund (GRF), SGI is reimbursed for cost of recovery out of the other 75 per cent and any of the remaining revenue is split 50/50 between the municipality and the Provincial Traffic Safety Fund. Municipalities must use the funding for traffic safety initiatives.
