The Province’s Ministry of Community Safety has confirmed the bear that was euthanized following a fatal attack in northern Saskatchewan was, in fact, the bear that caused the deaths.
On July 15th, Regina couple Deb and Jay MacDonald were confirmed to have been mauled by a black bear at McTavish Lake, a fly-in lake north of La Ronge. The bear was then located and euthanized. Now, a necropsy has confirmed the identity of the bear.
The ministry advises residents, cabin owners, visitors and outdoor recreation users to exercise caution when outdoors to avoid wildlife encounters.
