Bear spray used by suspect while police try to make arrest
The Saskatoon Police Service say arrests were made after a police officer was assaulted and bear sprayed.
On Saturday around 12:40 p.m. police responded to the 1600 block of Avenue B North after receiving a report of an assault.
Officers were taking one man into custody after learning he had multiple outstanding warrants, but the police say he tried to get away by kicking one of the officers. A news release from police indicates a physical struggle ensued, during which a second man approached officers and discharged bear spray in their direction.
While the first man was taken into custody, the man that discharged the bear spray fled however was tracked down and arrested the next day.
Two men, both age 33, were charged. One was charged with Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, Personation with Intent and breaching court-imposed conditions while the other is facing four charges including Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order and Obstructing a Peace Officer.
Vehicle stolen has wheelchair inside
Saskatoon Police Service have confirmed a theft of vehicle took place in the 2100 block of St. Andrews Avenue which had a wheelchair inside.
A social media post is asking the public to report any sightings of a stolen van from the Exhibition area which had their daughter’s wheelchair inside. The theft has been reported to police.
The post stressed that the bigger concern was getting the wheelchair back and anyone with information to contact Saskatoon Police Service.
Woman charged in Forest Grove incident
Saskatoon Police made one arrest in connection to a weapons call in the Forest Grove neighbourhood Saturday night.
The call came in from the 300 block of Dunlop Street around 11:10 p.m. and arriving officers located a man with injuries consistent with stabbing. The described the injuries as non-life-threatening.
A woman, believed known to the victim, was arrested at the scene. A 32-year-old woman has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Breach of Court-Imposed Conditions.
