Multiple charges have been laid against a 32-year-old man, in connection to the stolen vehicle police chase where it’s alleged two police cruisers were hit and two officers discharged their firearms.
There are 18 charges in total, including four counts of robbery, four counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, two counts of hit and run, along with one count each of charges that include evade police, impaired driving, vehicle theft and breach of probation. The full list is below. He is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court at 2 p.m. today (Thurs).
Just before 8 yesterday (Wed) morning, police were told sewer work was happening by a private company around Wiggins Avenue and Cascade Street when a truck was stolen. The driver refused to stop and police say at several points during the pursuit the suspect attempted to hit police vehicles and twice he was successful. Two officers discharged their firearm during the incident. When the vehicle was heading onto the Valley Road off ramp from Circle Drive, police intentionally struck the vehicle to immobilize it.
Saskatoon Police add that before this incident, investigators determined around 6:40 Wednesday morning, the suspect allegedly assaulted a taxi driver, stole their vehicle and then struck a convenience store in the 1500 block of 22nd Street. Then he entered and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and deployed bear spray before fleeing on foot.
