Details have been released about Premier Scott Moe’s trade mission to China, as well as corresponding stops in Japan and South Korea.
Moe will be in China from September 6th-12th, while Trade and Export Minister Warren Kaeding spends three days in South Korea before joining the Premier in Japan.
The Chinese mission will focus on restoring normal canola trade with China, which has imposed a 76 per cent preliminary tariff on canola seed, as well as 100 per cent tariffs on canola meal, canola oil and peas.
Moe has invited the Prime Minister or any other federal cabinet minister to join him in China—saying its important to engage with the Chinese government on these temporary duties before it is too late.
The stops in South Korea and Japan will focus on expanding exports to both nations. In 2024, Saskatchewan’s exports to Asia exceeded $10 billion. Exports to China totaled $4.4 billion, while South Korea and Japan combined are $162 million and $929 million respectively.
